My brother Tom, rescued this belt from the trunk of my totaled Jetta. I was driving back from Richmond to Charlottesville on I64 for work when the snowstorm hit. It was the largest accident I’ve ever experienced. More than 50 cars were funneled into an icy mess. There was at least one fatality. I remembered being rear ended and smashing to the car in front of me. I remember being taken to the hospital to be examined and being so sore I could hardly get out of bed, luckily it was only suffering bruising and whiplash. There were of course lawsuits and I remember having to testify in court. I hated the experience.
But even when everything was against me, including the weather, it was my brother who was there for me. He had gone to the salvage yard and prided open the trunk to pull out my duffel bag. He saved my belt, the one thing that I felt I truly earned. For that and many more reason’s I’m grateful.
